The best way to enjoy summer is by having the cool must-haves such as an Instax camera. Want one? PolaroidPH, your one-stop shop for Instax products in the Philippines, is giving away a Piano Black Instax Mini 50S through our “Instantize for a Piano Black” Facebook contest! Read the mechanics below on how to join.

“Instantize for a Piano Black!” Contest Mechanics :
  1. “Instantize” any best solo photo of yourself (whether taken with a digicam, camera phone, webcam, etc) by using the free application at http://www.instantizer.com. Type in “I want an Instax!” with your name on the “Add a brief description” option (e.g. I want an Instax! – Juan).
  2. After uploading your picture, save it by right-clicking the image. Click “Save image as” and place it in your desired folder in your computer with a .jpg file extension (e.g. juan.jpg).
  3. E-mail your instantized photo to joni@polaroidph.com with “Instantize for a Piano Black” and your full name as the subject. (e.g. Instantize for a Piano Black – Juan Dela Cruz)
  4. Within 24 hours, we will post your photo on the PolaroidPH Facebook page and email you back a link to your photo. Use the link to easily spread the word via Facebook or other means for you to collect “likes” (or votes) for your photo entry. The entry with the most likes wins an Piano Black Instax Mini 50s with one film pack! Entries will be compiled in a designated Facebook photo album. (Here’s a tip: Ask your friends to “like” the PolaroidPH Facebook Page first before they “like” your photo!)

Whether you already own an Instax or yearning to have one — as long as you’re a Philippine resident — you are welcome to join! There’s no age limit.

Contest begins on March 23, 2011 and will end at 12:00nn on April 13, 2011. The winner will be announced on the same day at 1:00pm and will be contacted afterwards via e-mail.

Photo Competition May 2011 - Pet Photo Contest

The first competition in our 2011 photo contest series is now open for entries. The theme is “Pets”. We will be looking for striking and original photographs of your beloved dogs, cats and other pets. The deadline for this contest is 11th May 2011.

  2. This competition is open to participants worldwide.
  3. There is no entry fee.
  4. You must be the photographer and owner of the copyright for any image entered.
  5. Entrants can submit a maximum of three images to this contest.
  6. Please keep digital manipulation such as cloning and compositing to a minimum; your photograph should faithfully represent the scene as you saw it.
  7. Submitted images should be 1024 pixels along the long edge.
  8. Please do not include a watermark or border.
  9. You will retain copyright of your entries at all times and will always be credited alongside your picture.
  10. By entering this competition, you grant us a non-exclusive license to display your photograph in connection with this contest. Photographers will always be credited alongside their image.

2011 Edible Book Contest

Entry Form

Rules :
  1. Entrants must submit a completed entry form (below) by Friday, March 25, 2011 indicating an intent to participate.
  2. Each contest entry must be at least 95% edible (i.e., made of food or foodstuffs). Refrigeration will not be available so entries should not be made of extremely perishable ingredients. A list of ingredients must accompany each creation.
  3. Entries can be no larger than 18x24x24 inches.
  4. Each entry becomes the property of the CSI Library and will be sold via a silent auction.
  5. Entries should arrive no later than 1:00pm on Saturday, April 2, 2011. Late entries may not be accepted.

Prizes
Prizes will be issued for the best entries in each of the divisions :
  1. Most Realistic
  2. Most Creative
  3. Best Children’s Book
  4. Best Adult Fiction Book
  5. Best Adult Non-Fiction Book

Free Verse & Rhyming Poetry
Judge: JOHN WHITWORTH, acclaimed poet and author of nine books of poems and one on writing poetry

For A and B categories
1st prize £250, 2nd prize £150, 3rd prize £50
plus £10 awards for highly commended entries

Humorous Poetry
Judge: JAYNE OSBORN, award-winning Northamptonshire poet
1st prize £150, 2nd prize £100, 3rd prize £50

Poems must not have been previously published, won an award or be currently entered in another competition

Poems, in English and not exceeding 40 lines, should be printed or typed on one side of the paper only, and are not returnable

The author's name must not appear on any poem

Entry fees are £3 per poem or 4 for £10, or £3.50 and £10.60 if paid on-line (to cover PayPal fees)

Entries must be received by Saturday 14 May 2011

Copyright remains with the poet

An Awards Ceremony will take place at the Northampton Guildhall on Thursday 23 June 2011, at 7.00 pm, and the winning poems will be posted on the NLG website

September Competition - The 2011 International Algae Competition

Designing with algae? It may sound messy but the versatile plant could very well be the key to a sustainable future. To that end, the 2011 International Algae Competition is calling all algae enthusiasts, architects, builders, designers, scientists, entrepreneurs, growers, food developers, cooks and students to submit their visions for algae in our future with design ideas for algae production landscapes, sustainable algae production systems for food, medicines, feed, energy, nutrients, water remediation, carbon capture, and superb new algae foods. The Algae Competition is open to everyone, anywhere in the world.

Algae Competition

Objectives : Create an open source collaboratory that expands and shares a vision for algae in our future with design ideas for algae production landscapes, sustainable algae production systems for food, medicines, feed, energy, nutrients, water remediation, carbon capture, and superb new algae foods.

The Algae Competition is open to everyone, anywhere in the world: algae enthusiasts, architects, builders, designers, scientists, entrepreneurs, growers, food developers, cooks, students and teams.

Registration opens January 11, closes September 11, 2011. All contestants must register. Submission opens February 11, closes October 11, 2011. Entries will be judged by distinguished panels of international jurors. Finalists will be announced February 12, 2012.

As an open source competition, entries will be showcased online. Over $10,000 in cash prizes will be awarded to winners. Finalists will receive international media recognition and will be included in books, publications and exhibitions to be held around the world in 2012.
