TROPFEST Arabia’s aim is to contribute to the development of the Arab film industry by providing an opportunity for the region’s filmmakers to bring their short films to the community. As well as a public screening in Abu Dhabi in 2011, shortlisted films will be available for viewing online providing an excellent opportunity to showcase the talent that exists in the region.
The annual short film competition is open to anyone who wishes to enter – regardless of their background or experience. TROPFEST Arabia films are unique in that they have all been made specifically for TROPFEST Arabia and include the TROPFEST Signature Item (or TSI), which changes each year. The TSI for the first running of TROPFEST Arabia is “STAR”.

Join in the fun and tradition of TROPFEST by making a film for the world’s largest short film festival. Whether you’re a complete beginner, studying film-making or already have a few films under your belt, TROPFEST Arabia gives you the opportunity to tell a story through film.
TROPFEST Arabia is open to anyone who wishes to enter – regardless of background or experience. TROPFEST Arabia films must be made specifically for TROPFEST Arabia and include the TROPFEST Signature Item (or TSI), which changes each year. The TSI for the first running of TROPFEST Arabia is “STAR”.
There are only a few small guidelines you must follow when making your film :
- Your film must be made specifically for TROPFEST Arabia 2011
- TROPFEST Arabia 2011 must be your film’s first public screening (including online)
- Your film must be no longer than seven minutes (including title and end credits)
- Your film must contain the TSI – ‘STAR’. The TSI can be interpreted any way you choose – be creative!
- You must be a citizen of the MENA region for your film to qualify. (Algeria, Bahrain, Djibouti, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestinian territories (the west bank and gaza strip) Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab emirates and Yemen).
- Tropfest Arabia has been set up in part to encourage young Arabs to enter the dynamic and exciting film industry. For this reason, the Director of your film needs to be an Arab national. Other roles (including producer, writer, etc) may be performed by non-Arabs
The timeliness are as follows:
- April – September submission of film entries opens online.
- 22 September entries close for film submissions.
- 1st October Judging sessions begin
- 16 October we will announce the finalist shortlist
- Beginning of November TROPFEST Arabia Festival will be held in Abu Dhabi. We will screen all of our finalists at this event and will post all finalists to our website.

Short film makers, both professionals and amateurs, are invited to submit their work to the Tropfest Arabia to be held in Abu Dhabi in November 2011.
Tropfest Arabia, organized by twofour54 is an extension of Tropfest, which bills itself as the world's largest short film festival.
The film must be made specifically for Tropfest Arabia 2011 and may be no longer than seven minutes.
Deadline for entries : September 22, 2011.
The contest is open to citizens from the following countries in the MENA region: Algeria, Bahrain, Djibouti, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestinian territories (the West Bank and Gaza Strip) Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen.
Preparatory workshops will be held in several Arab countries, upcoming dates include Jordan (Thursday, June 9) and Lebanon (Saturday, June 11).
